We partner with organisations to bring the people who use and deliver their services into the heart of the design process.
Strategic design.
We specialise in:
Service strategy
Service model design
Systems thinking
A service rarely operates in isolation. It’s usually part of a wider, more complex service model or system. Service design work can lead to the need to redesign or adapt wider service models. It can also help shine a light on systemic barriers.
When we are working to design or redesign services we are constantly zooming in and out. We work to design the detail of interactions but we are equally aware of the bigger picture.
Service design.
We specialise in:
New service design
Service redesign
Journey mapping
Service blueprinting
Prototyping
We use co-design methods to design services. Our work is often focused on redesigning existing services to solve a particular problem or smooth out the experience for users to better meet their needs. We love fixing the basics and working to improve real services that people are using every day.
We also design brand new services too although this is rarer. We love working with organisations that have seen a need but require creative support to bring a service to life to meet that need.
Co-design.
We specialise in:
Co-design
Co-creation
Co-decision making
We advocate for co-design that brings the people who use services into the heart of the design and decision making process. Where possible, this is how we prefer to design services - especially if it’s a brand new service.
This approach takes time. We prefer to work with organisations that recognise this and have the budget and people available to build the relationships and trust required to do co-design well.
We pride ourselves on designing approaches that ensure equity of access for all and a trusted and safe environment for participation.
Why Joy?
Relational
We care about people. Because people are at the heart of service delivery. We are committed to taking a true co-design approach, bringing people with lived experience into the heart of the design process to work in partnership with us. Equally, our practice builds trust and compliments the work of frontline delivery staff.
Flexible
While we respect timelines and budgets, we would prefer you get what you need from a project. If things change we are flexible, rather than sticking rigidly to the initial proposal.
Challenge
We’re not afraid to challenge and voice our opinions if it’s going to make your service work better.
Real
We prefer working on real life services. We want our work to impact the lives of people and enjoy working on things that are actually going to make a difference.
